Enamelled copper bowls

When designing a bowl, both the inside and outside must complement each other to achieve a complete design. Working out how the design can work with the shape of the bowl is a key part of the creative process, and applying enamels to a curved surface is a challenge.

The bowls shown here involve the sifting of enamel, lead and lead-free, as well as wet-process enamels. Because the enamel is on a slanted surface, it can slide when high fired. This can enhance the colours, and allows other colours to emerge as the layers of enamel are built up.
